Faculty Position
The faculty of the School of Library and Information Studies at the University
of Alabama invite applications and nominations for a tenure-earning assistant
professor position. The appointment is to begin 16 August 1997.
Qualifications:
Doctorate preferred. Demonstrated potential for research and
teaching, ability to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment to
meet deadlines, and a willingness to assume leadership roles within the School,
the University, the state, and in professional associations.
Responsibilities:
The faculty seek a colleague who will be responsible for
research and teaching master's and doctoral level courses in the areas of
information systems and technology, to include two or more of the following:
information policy, economics of information, telecommunications, networks and
communication technology, digital libraries, indexing and abstracting, inter-
face design, and information retrieval. Applicants should also be interested
in collaborative projects with faculty from other units located on campus, and
joint appointments with other departments and divisions are possible. In
addition to teaching responsibilities on the Tuscaloosa campus, at the Gadsden
Center, and via the University's Inter-campus Interactive Telecommunications
System, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct and publish
research, serve on doctoral and institutional committees, advise students and
participate collegially as one of ten full-time faculty members.
Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Summer teaching is available, and the benefit package is a generous one.
