Announcement of Position Availability
Position:
- Director, School of Library and Information Science.
- The School offers a program leading to the MLIS degree
and the school library media credential. The degree is
offered at the San Jose campus; the San Jose degree is
also offered at an off-campus site based primarily at
CSU Fullerton in Southern California. The two parts of the School are linked by an extensive distance
education program utilizing ATM technology.
Rank:
- Professor or Associate Professor.
Qualifications:
- An MLIS and a doctorate in library/information science
or a related field;
- A scholarly research and publication record that meets
the criteria for appointment at Associate Professor or
Professor rank;
- A solid record of academic administrative experience;
- A commitment to the various facets which make up the
field of library and information science especially:
the delivery of information services in libraries
and information environments of all kinds,
information technology, information literacy, the
conceptualization and design of information
systems, archives and preservation;
- An awareness of, and sensitivity to, the educational
goals of a multicultural population. Ideally candidates
should have cross-cultural experience and/or training.
Responsibilities:
- Function as the chief administrative officer of the
School of Library and Information Science;
- Teach and address the needs of ethnically diverse
students through course materials, teaching strategies,
and advisement;
- Seek outside funding to support classroom activities
and faculty research.
Salary Range:
- Dependent upon academic rank and experience, with
additional compensation for the distance education
program.
Starting Date:
- The position will be available July 1st, 1997.
