The New Orleans Museum of Art houses one of the finest collections in the southern United States. Represented in this set of images is an important group of early Italian paintings, a strong collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American paintings, and a significant collection of nineteenth-century French paintings. In 1983, Louise and the late Alan Sellars began collecting art by American women who worked during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Renewed interest in these artists and the noteworthy quality of their work has focused attention on this extensive private collection located in Marietta, Georgia. The twenty-five images of Siena included in this set represent views of the major architectural monuments in the city, such as exterior and interior views of the cathedral complex, focusing on the pulpit and baptismal font; the Palazzo Pubblico, and the Porta Romana. The fifteen views of Pisa, represent the cathedral complex, specifically the doors by Bonanno, and views of the baptistery and cathedral pulpits. (40 images).
