Migration on Request Migration from format to format over time is a widely recognised method of performing preservation work, but is far from ideal. Conventional Migration can be costly and potentionally inaccurate, as errors during transformation can propogate through subsequent transformations. CAMiLEON has developed an alternative approach, called Migration on Request. By maintaining the original bytestream along with a tool to migrate the object at the point of use, our preservation strategy can be more accurate and cost effective. A small tool to migrate vector graphics has been developed to provide a practical test of the Migration on Request approach and can be downloaded for evaluation.
