1. Show students examples of works by Augusta Fells Savage, Aaron Douglas, William H. Johnson, and Meta Warwick Fuller. Discuss how these artists were influenced by the literature and the socio-political climate of their time.
   
   
2. Have students look around their neighborhoods and do a survey of murals and sculpture. Have them find out who the artists are, what the titles and dates of the works are, and the materials.
   
   
3. Have students do a drawing or painting depicting the work of a contemporary musician or writer.
