Have students bring in magazine clippings
of a contemporary woman star. Have them write a short history of these
women's careers. How has the 
industry changed for African Americans
in show business? What has remained the same?
- Show students film or video clips of Ethel Waters' work. Have a classroom
discussion on the content of the films. Look at pictures of Ms. Waters
over the course of her career. Notice how she changed. Have students
read portions of her autobiography, "His Eye is On the Sparrow". Why
has Ms. Waters chosen this title? Have students write a review of the
book.
- Assign students to read a biography of autobiography of a contemporary
actor/actress. Have them write a short biographical sketch on that person.
