But Some Survived
by Rebecca Reesman, Hanna Taylor, Kara Stiles, and Margaret Wheeler

At first they were afraid, they were petrified
When they were forced onto that ship and stacked up side by side

And they spent so many nights thinking what was going on
It was wrong, how they kept them there so long

But they were black, from Africa
It didn't matter to those white men what they would become

Like exports they were shipped and
Like animals they were whipped

But some survived, even though lots of 'em died
The slaves!

(Music Break)

They arrived on the port, and were chained up tight
Their tears and their fears occupied the night.

In the morning they were lined up against the city walls
One-by-one each was chosen from them all.

But they were black, from Africa
It didn't matter to those white men what they would become
.

Like exports they were shipped and
Like animals they were whipped.

But some survived, even though lots of 'em died.

And they were brought
To their new homes.

Their owners changed their names and
Forced them against their own.

And they were black, from Africa
It didn't matter to those white men what they would become.

Like exports they were shipped and
Like animals they were shipped.

But some survived, even though lots of 'em died.
Yeeeaahhh!!!!!!!!!!
