Ellis Island
by Kelly Butcher and Ryan Fark

Refrain:

Then away, away from my homeland
While I don't have time to grieve.
I may never return to my homeland.
Why did I ever leave?

Verse One:
My loved ones are away from me.
We are parted by the lashing sea.
Confused, I don't know what to do
Inside this land so big and new.

Refrain:

Verse Two:
Off the boat I thought me free.
I would have firm land under me.
The coast was bustling and so loud
I was but one in a moving crowd.

Refrain:

Verse Three:
They asked me questions brisk and fast
About my country and my past.
I could not speak -- my throat was dumb --
My heart was frozen still and numb.

Refrain:

Verse Four:
Finding work and pay is hard.
Without a job, my pride is marred.
This land of hope, prosperity
Is not what is once seemed to be.
