Finally Free
by Katie Griebe

From monarchy to republic,
Our country has grown
From King to President,
Through we stood alon.

Puritans seeking a new life
And new rules,
Want out and traveled,
To the new world.

They set up settlements,
Colonized the land,
The Indians weren't too happy,
But to them, they said "Too bad" and at first, lived contentedly.

Disagreements came shortly,
Between mother and child,
Disputes over taxes,
Turned a bit too wild.

Trouble in Boston,
Perfectly good tea thrown overboard,
The colonists began to rebel,
For the money, they felt George stole.

The "Shot heard round the world"
Began the revolution
Fighting broke out then,
All for one little town.

The loss at Bunker Hill,
To the victory in Yorktown,
America has grown through Trenton,
Saratoga, and Princeton.

Lafayette and Paul Revere,
Thomas Paine to Washington,
All assisted, the Americans,
To at last win over Britain.

And so from Independence,
To truly being free,
The treaty of Paris, when both sides agree,
Finally, in 1783.
