The History
(By Victoria Munson's class, Scarlett Middle School)

They said we had our freedom,
But we're not really free.
We're not treated like people,
We don't have the right to be.
They won't let us have the vote,
We can't sit in the front.
They won't serve us at restaurants,
They treat us like cattle and goats.
We won't have our freedom
Until the white men see
We are the same as they are.
Some say we're not the same,
And some say we're equal.
Well, we're people,
We have names,
And we live like humans.
And someday we'll be treated equal.
