The History
(By Victoria Munson's class, Scarlett Middle School)

As I've grown throughout my life,
I have heard many stories of the struggles for blacks.
Stories like Malcolm X's journey to Mecca,
Dr. Martin Luther King's march on Washington
And his "I have a Dream" speech,
Rosa Parks being jailed for not
Giving her seat up to a white man.
There are many more stories to be told;
I could go on and on.
It's been nothing but prejudice and discrimination,
But what have we done?
Nothing but overcome it.
I've also heard stories of Harriet Tubman risking her own life
To bring others out of slavery
These were hard times for blacks,
But we stuck to our beliefs and were determined
To fight for what we deserved, and we got it.
There's still prejudice today,
But we must bond together to fight it.
