Ocean Waves Patterned Quilt
From the Collections of Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village
The tiny pieces in this Ocean Waves quilt are a good example of how quilters use every available scrap of fabric, no matter how small. In many cases, the use of small pieces was not only to reduce waste, but also as a means for displaying great skill in sewing very small pieces. This quilt is also an example of using triangles instead of squares in forming a pattern. Other examples of quilt patterns using squares are: Baskets, Pine Trees, and Flying Geese.
