This quilt is unique to Susan McCord. Although other quilters have made quilts with vines used as borders, the use of the vine as the central design is unusual. From what we know about the quilt, Susan designed the pattern herself and it is an expression of her creativity. The vine and its variations reappear in four other quilts in the collection. The theme of nature in quilts was very popular during the period when the quilts in the collection were made, because of homesteading, farming and gardening.
