This is a wolf mask. Mary Mike describes the presentation of a wolf mask in which the wolf was said to enter the performer: "When Leggleq [the angalkuq] had presented a wolf mask that time. . .the wolf entered him. Though he wasn't actually fighting another person he was ferociously growling and carrying on down there and he was also barking. . .I think that wolf mask was a genuine power. It would come to those certain people. Perhaps it was able to see people who were clean and pure."

Jasper Louise recalls: "While we are alive, anything we have that can inspire us has the potential of becoming a mask. When the angalkuq used the wolf in the lyrics of his song, it would be powerful. The wolf is highly regarded because it is bold and capable of easily capturing whatever it pursues."

Wolves live and hunt in packs. They eat small animals and birds, but they have been known to attack reindeer and other large mammals.

The matting season for a wolf is spring. A female wolf has a litter of 1 to 11 cubs which live with the wolf parents until the next winter, although they can stay much longer.

Adult male wolves can grow to be 6 1/2 feet in length including the tail and can weigh as much as 175 lbs. The gray wolf is often a reddish yellow color with black patches above and white patches below. Some wolves however can have all white fur coats.

What did Mary Mike mean when she said: "I think that wolf mask was a genuine power. It would come to those certain people. Perhaps it was able to see people who were clean and pure."
