- Materials that had been sorted by the University of Michigan School of Information group during their work in May
- Items set aside by library staff as problems
- Incoming gifts
- Purchases made by the library director over the summer
- Monographs and a few technical reports that were included in the Russell Boulding collection
- Reference works from University of Michigan Library withdrawals
- Items with Crow content requiring original cataloging
- Books with records that had not loaded when the library converted to the SIRSI system
Of
the items cataloged, around 98% had copy cataloging available either
through the consortium catalog or in OCLC.
Ms. Webster spent two weeks working with Christina Stops-Hill, training her to do basic copy cataloging. Bonnie Johnson, a consultant, wrote a technical services manual for the library, and Christina and Ms. Webster revised it as the training went along.
For the last few days of her stay she also began training Tim Bernardis, the library director, to do original cataloging by working on some sample records. Other projects I was involved in include: weeding the Reference collection; setting up a "Free Books" table for the hundreds of duplicates that were being withdrawn; assisting in training students to do processing; and working with the technical services consultant to document procedures and make recommendations.
