Sugar Island is called Sugar Island because
of the Maple Syrup on the island. The island is seperated from the Sault
because of the St. Mary's riverwhich was once a rapids area with a 22
foot water fall.

Sugar Island also has smaller islands within itself including Duck Island. On Duck Island there is an island which Govener Osborne has had property on. It includes a small library and a small cabin. He later donated the property to the Univeristy of Michigan. Also he supposivly went to the University of Michgan.I have lived on the island for seven years and counting,my grandpa had taken me tree tapping for maple syrup. On the island maplesyrup is a favorite. When tribes where on the island it is said that the natives would not have lived here on the island without the islands spirit. |
