Tours of...

Bay Mills Reservation

We got the privilege to hike (1/2 of a mile) to visit a 3000 year old American Indian village.  In this picture there are pottery remains which is evidence that there were recent excavators.  They must've had metal detectors because along with the pottery remains were scraps of rusted metal.**Click on the pictures for more info. on the tours!!**

Tahquamenon Falls

The 94 mile long Tahquamenon River originated north of McMillan, Mich. and drains an area of about 500 sq. miles.  It has a maximum flow of over 60,000 gallons a second and a minimum flow of about 2,000 gallons a second.  It flows into Lake Superior south of Paradise, Michigan.  Tannic Acid from the Cedar Hemlock swamps, which the river drains, accounts for the dark color of its waters. The extremely soft water of the river, turned by the 48 ft. drop of the upper falls, causes the excessive amounts of foam, which has been the Tahquamenon trademark since the days of the voyageurs. The exposed rock on the sides of the 200 ft. wide falls is Cambrian Age sandstone.
**This came from a sign at Tahquamenon Falls (the upper falls).**

Duck Island/Lake

Dating back at least 100 years, the area of Duck Island is being well preserved by a professor named Ed Andrews.  Unfortunately, he is sick at the moment so Bud Biron is filling in for him.  Bud was kind enough to show us around the island.  He showed us a governor's house which has only the chimney standing as you can see in our picture.
