SI 505 Design and management of information systems and services
Progress Report Assignment
Due by March 10, 1999
Goal:
After working on your project for
3 or 4 weeks, it is important to formally sit down as a group and do a
"reality check" on your progress by re-reading your project contract and
group process documents and comparing them to your activities to date and
your evolving knowledge about the project, its direction and the
management of your group.
Assignment:
By Wednesday, March 10 you will turn
in a Progress report. The Progress report should be an honest assessment
of where your project stands relative to the time table you presented in
your project contract. The Progress report should be brief (about
3 pages), and should answer the following questions for your readers:
-
What work (time period or tasks/stages)
does the report cover?
-
What is the purpose of the work?
Include the objective of your project to give the report context.
-
How do things stand overall?
Include your team's general assessment of your work to date.
-
Is your work progressing as planned
or expected? Include an assessment of the current progress relative
to the project tasks, timetable, and/or total hours of effort to date.
-
Do you need to revise the scope of
your project as described in your project plan? If changes are
required, include a detailed description of the reasoning behind the change.
-
Is the the gorup process working
as anticipated? Include a brief description and any changes or
adjustments you have made.
-
What do you think we should do?
If you are experiencing problems, let us know what we might do to help.
(Note: If this is the case, you should also be discussing these issues
during office hours.)
If you were doing progress reports periodically,
you would include a section on future work for the next reporting period.
If there are changes from your project contract timetable, certainly include
them in your report. Otherwise, there is little need for a future
work section, since that work includes completing the project as defined.
