Background: First created by legislative act, 1913; this act was superseded by Act 236 of 1927 which declared that it would be state policy to care for crippled children in the same general manner as it cared for "the deaf, dumb, blind, feeble-minded, epileptics, insane and other unfortunates"; Commission's functions were transferred to the Department of Public Health under Act 380, 1965.

Summary: Routine memoranda and administrative correspondence from the Children's Bureau of the U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare; statements about vocational rehabilitation, maternal and child health, and crippled children's programs prepared by the Michigan Public Health Study Commission; statistical reports on Michigan's services to crippled children, 1953-1955, submitted to the Bureau; financial statements submitted to the Bureau showing expenditures made for services to Michigan's crippled children and requests for additional funds; also include a program from a regional conference held by the Bureau and the various state crippled children's agencies and a manuscript speech presented at the conference entitled "Nutritional Needs of Children with Long Term Illnesses and How to Meet Them", letters to the Bureau from the Area Amputee Center staff discussing plans for the Children's Prosthetics Research Program, 1954-1962.
