Background: Seventh-Day Adventists established the Health Reform Institute in Battle Creek, 1866. With the promotion of John Harvey Kellogg, this organization developed the Battle Creek Sanitarium, one of the earliest training schools for nurses in the country.

Summary: Include magazines; clippings; promotional literature; articles of association; bylaws; letters; speeches; and transcripts of ceremonies relating to the Battle Creek Sanitarium, its staff and graduates. Also included are biographies of Mary Staines Foy, John Harvey Kellogg, and Kate Lindsay.
