Workshop Objective

When one reviews the landscape of organizational studies, one sees a number of issues which might be effectively studied within sport; i.e., diversity, organizational reputation, organizational identification, leadership, high-performance teams, franchising, creation of strategic advantage.

The objective of our workshop is to investigate how studying such phenomena within sports can contribute to our understanding of organizations.

Workshop Structure

Given the cross-disciplinary nature of the work-shop, we will endeavor to develop common understanding and synergy among participants, many of whom will have different training (e.g., organization behavior, psychology, sociology) and areas of expertise (e.g., diversity, leadership, organizational reputation, sport). In order to facilitate the development of common understanding and synergy, the work-shop will be organized around a series of sessions.

The "kick-off" of each session will be undertaken by a participant with the appropriate expertise; that participant will address central questions being posed in the relevant literature and how studying sport might contribute to answering the identified questions. After each "kick-off", all participants will enter the fray with their ideas and insights, all of which will be recorded for subsequent synthesis and distribution.
