National Archives and Records Administration
Submitted by bpanozzo on Wed, 2007-09-19 11:08.This last summer I interned at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in College Park, MD. I worked with the Electronic Records Management Team on producing guidance for Federal agencies on how they should handle their electronic records. I was the first intern in my department, but they were excited to have me and are open to more interns in the future.
There are many opportunities at NARA in various archival functions and they are excited to have interns.
Watching the Ford [website]s go by and playing in the Mudd
Submitted by jsharp on Tue, 2006-05-02 18:57.This semester (as part of 692) I did a joint internship with Ford Motor Co. and the Benson Ford Research Center at The Henry Ford. The task was to research the logistics related to archiving their public websites. I mostly did a lot of reading about the various techniques and practices. Mostly I worked from Ann Arbor. I would meet periodically with the Ford and BFRC folks to discuss the questions they need to answer in order to get the project in gear.
Adventures in Records Management
Submitted by kpconner on Thu, 2006-04-13 12:21.While enrolled in 692, I worked at Record Management Services at the State of Michigan. It was very helpful in introducing me to RM and all its facets. I created an inventory of the Ingham County Human Services office and compiled them with an inventory from Wayne county into a complete schedule draft. When my internship was completed, the draft was submitted to the State's central office for a first round of comments and revision.

What's been most interesting about this project is considering how access possibilities can impact cataloging decisions, and having the opportunity to research the CCO (Cataloging Cultural Objects) guidelines.
