Whatever output you produce, doing so at minimum cost…
- saves resources to do other good things
“Exceptions”: when using (not using) inputs are part of the objective!
- China has policy of full employment: objective includes using labor even if not needed
- anti-pollution policies: don’t use cheapest inputs
