Connecting to Dialog on the DIAD Macs

Quit out of the Terminal application if it's already running and wait until the DIAD Monitor is almost ready to log you in before doing the following:

  1. Right click on the Applications alias in the Dock at the bottom of your desktop. It's near the Trash icon and has the following icon:

  2. Scroll down through the applications until you get to Utilities and wait until your mouse-over shows you what's in that folder

  3. In the Utilities folder, find and left click once on SI-665-Launcher

  4. Click on the Dialog button in the resulting window

  5. Wait for the DIAD Monitor to type in a User ID and password for you

  6. Conduct your search
    • During your search erase input errors by using the <DELETE> key.
    • Do not use the <LEFT ARROW> or <RIGHT ARROW> keys to backspace.

  7. Type logoff and hit return when you are finished searching
    • the cost for your search session will be displayed
    • the connection to Dialog will then close
    • the terminal window will not close, and will go to the local prompt

  8. DO NOT CLOSE THE TERMINAL WINDOW OR QUIT THE TERMINAL APPLICATION UNTIL YOU DO THE FOLLOWING:
    • Choose Save Text As from the file menu
    • Type Dialog.doc in the save as box (you can call it something else if you like, as long as it has the .doc suffix)
    • Choose Desktop from the Where pull-down menu
    • Click on the Save button

  9. Now you can quit the terminal application and you're done. Info on how to fix margins in the resulting document, print it, and save it to your NetWare home directory are available on the User Instructions page
