Configuring Printers

HP Printers - Mac OS: Garbage Text at the Top of Multiple Pages from Graphics Applications.

ISSUE: When printing from certain imaging applications (Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Freehand etc...) to HP printers with Postscript built-in via USB or LPR, the printer prints continuous pages with a single line of garbage text at the top of each page.

This issue was tested in Mac operating systems up to Mac OS 9.2. and in Mac OS X v. 10.xSOLUTION: One line of garbage text at the top of a page, printed at the top of multiple pages, is symptomatic of a printer receiving binary encoded data that cannot be understood by the printer. Setting the program or driver to output ASCII (rather than Binary) data usually resolves this issue. Instructions for setting this feature in Adobe Photoshop are given below.

1.) When selecting you are ready to print the file you are working on, please select "Print with Preview" from the file menu. A window similar to the one below should appear.

2.) If it is not already selected, please choose "Output" from the drop down menu on the left side of the window.

3.) Change the "Encoding" selection from "Binary" to "ASCII".

4.) Print your document.

5.) The setting should stay the same for subsequent documents that you print.
