How to filter mail in Mulberry |
 |
 |
- Start up Mulberry and log in.
- Go to the Mailboxes menu and choose "Rules"
- In the resulting window you should see a split window with
"Rules" on the left and "Triggers" on the right. If you don't
see a split window, then look to see if the left edge of the
window has 2 thin bars instead of 1; if it does, click on the
inner one and drag it right.
- Make sure the active tab near the top is "Local" and not "SIEVE"
|
 |
 |
Now you have to create a
trigger and corresponding rules: |
 |
 |
A trigger is an event that happens with a certain mail folder, like
when you open your INBOX. The opening is the event that happens to the folder INBOX.
A rule is something you want to happen to a given message when a
trigger happens, like deleting any message that has "Welcome, Friend"
in the subject line when you open your INBOX. The rule is that the
message is deleted, and again the trigger is the opening of your
INBOX. You could have multiple rules for any given trigger.
To create a trigger:
- Click on the Trigger button to create a new trigger
- Type in a name for this trigger, like "OpenINBOX"
- Make sure the box next to "Enabled" is checked
- Choose your trigger in the pull down menu next to "Trigger when:",
such as "Open Mailbox" to have the trigger be when the folder
is opened
- Now click on the "More Targets" under "Apply" below and then
choose "Mailbox" in the Apply pull-down menu
- You'll then have a new blank pull-down menu just to the right;
click on the little down arrow button just to the right of the
blank area and choose the folder that you want it to apply to,
such as "INBOX"
- Finally, click on the OK button; the new trigger should now show
up under "Triggers" on the right
|
 |
 |
To create a rule |
 |
 |
- Click on the Rule button to create a new rule
- Type in a name for this rule, like "Delete-WF"
- In the "Triggered by:" pull-down menu immediately to the right,
choose your trigger, such as the "OpenINBOX" trigger just
created; the trigger you just selected should now have a little
check-mark next to it
- Now in the "Find Messages whose" pull-down menu, choose a part
of
the message you want to base the rule on, like the "Subject" in
this example; choose either "Contains or "Does Not Contain"
from
the pull-down menu to the immediate right, Contains in this case,
and then type in the text you want to filter on into the box to
the immediate right, such as "Welcome, Friend" in this example
- Now in the "Actions" pull-down menu, choose what you want to have
happen to the message filtered, such as "Set Flag" in this
example and then choose from the pull-down menu immediately to
the right, such as "Deleted" in this case; all messages with
Welcome, Friend" in the Subject will be marked as deleted, but
they won't be expunged, or permanently removed.
- If you want something else to happen in the same rule, click on
the "More Actions" button and choose another action from the
resulting pull-down menu(s), such as "Expunge Message" in
this example
- Make sure the box next to "Stop if Matched" is not checked
- Finally, click on the OK button; the new rule should now show up
under rules on the left. It should also show up under the
trigger on the right after you hit the little + box.
That should do it: you now have a trigger and a rule on what happens when
the
trigger occurs. This can get a little tricky, especially if you try to filter
spam based on the "From Address", as spammers often switch e-mail
accounts that
they send from. Also, be careful when you choose the text you filter on; think
about whether you would ever get a message with that text that you wouldn't want
to lose.
