If you access to the full version of Acrobat:
Acrobat Converts Postscript files to PDF format. This can be accomplished using Acrobat Distiller that comes with the full version of Adobe Acrobat or via an application you use everyday. Acrobat can install plugins that allow you to create pdf's directly from various applications such as:

  • Office Suite
  • WordPerfect
  • Corel
  • Adobe Suite

To use this functionality the application must be installed before Acrobat. Once this is done you can create a PDF in MSWord, for example, by doing the following:

  • Open an existing MS Word or PowerPoint file.
  • Under the Acrobat menu: select “Change Conversion Settings”Select “screen” for web compression or “press” for high resolution printing.
  • Select “View result in Acrobat” Name and save where you want.

If you do not have access to the full version of Acrobat:

Linux and Solaris: There are many free programs available for PDF creation on Unix platforms. If you need to be able to create PDFs from either a Linux or Solaris workstation, please contact SI Computing at si.computing@umich.edu
