What is a PDF?
PDF stands for Portable Document File Format.
This format is designed for universal distribution readable on many different computer platforms such as UNIX/Windows/Macintosh/LINUX

Acrobat Reader is a free application that are used by Millions that allow them to View search print PDF documents.

PDF's are for both high resolution printing or compressed for the web, since PDF's can be made smaller than the original file.
Another advantage to using PDF's is the look and feel of the document does not change over differnet platforms or internet browsers...this is an important fact when dealing with schematics or legal documents.

Where do PDF’s it come from?

PDF files can be created in several ways and with a varity of applications.

  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Adobe Suite
  • MS Office Suite
  • Ghost view

Cool things about PDF:

  • Security: Limits who can view/print/edit
  • Legal signature: Recognized in all 50 states
  • Annotations and commenting: Multiple people can work on the same document.
  • Way to gather data (surveys): An alternative to creating HTML forms in which data can be saved to a server or emailed to you.

Web vs Printing:
Acrobat has the ability to create both HI Resolution for a printing press or you office printer as well as creating compressed files for the web.

  • When creating a PDF forPrinting, save color as CMYK
  • Web save color as: RGB.
