Issues and Policies:
- Please be courteous to other students doing their labs by keeping noise to a
minimum.
- All SI students are allowed a total of 1/2 hour of free extra online searching
per week. This includes DIALOG and Lexis/Nexis. Search times are cumulative for
both, so you do not get 1/2 hour for each per week.
- If there is not a lab monitor in the DIAD, you must call or send an e-mail to
schedule a time when they can be there.
- This free searching time is not available when the SI 665 labs are scheduled
- Students taking SI 665 may not use the extra 1/2 hour to practice the search
they'll be doing for their lab. Also, this search time cannot be used to do
searches for which money is collected from some third party, or for searches that
support students' own businesses, work assignments, or consulting.
- Web version of the DIALOG Bluesheets
- The various Thesauri that we have for the databases are available for checkout in
exchange for your Student ID when a lab monitor is present. If the monitor must
leave with no replacement, you must turn the material back in.
- How to delete saved searches in DIALOG:
- Log into dialog as user id with the saved search(es)
- At the prompt, type "recall save"
- At the prompt, type "release DD001"
- Log off
- Keyboard tips: Sometimes, if you need to interrupt a process you've started
(entering a TYPE command for a number of items from the wrong set, for example),
you can hit Control-C to interrupt the process.
- If you miss your lab time, please request another time from your professor.
- Please do not ask the DIAD monitors for help on how to search. They are not
supposed to do this, and chances are they do not know how anyway.
