Information Economics, Management and Policy Specialization

SI has grown its specialization in information economics, management and policy into several distinct areas.

Information policy has become its own specialization.

Information economics is a primary focus of the incentive-centered design specialization.

Information management is an area the School has deemed so central to the skill set of an information professional that it has incorporated it as a core component of the entire MSI program. Students starting fall 2007 or later will have a management distribution requirement as part of their MSI program.

As of 2008, the IEMP specialization will no longer be accepting new students, as IEMP has been split into two specializations -- incentive-centered design, and information policy. Students interested in the management consulting and analyst track should follow the incentive-centered design specialization. Students interested in information policy should pursue the information policy specialization.

IEMP Specialization for Continuing Students

The Information Economics, Management and Policy (IEMP) specialization is an interdisciplinary course of study that draws on principles of information science, economics, management, political science, public policy, organizational theory, psychology, ethics, and computer science to propose answers to the tough questions confronting the networked society.

The IEMP degree prepares students to understand -- and manage -- the unique properties of the information society. In addition to the faculty and resources of the School of Information, students gain access to Michigan's schools of Law, Public Policy, and Business, and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. At the end of this two-year program, you'll walk away with the creative problem-solving skills that information-rich organizations require.
