Make a Gift to SI

At the School, we know that our reputation and success are due in large part to the commitment of our alumni and friends! Your continued financial support of the School is vital to maintaining Michigan's leading role as we train information professionals to contribute and succeed in today's increasingly competitive world.

With tuition rates rising beyond the capabilities of most graduate students, it is essential to the School -- and to students -- that we provide financial assistance to committed and talented students.

The Michigan Difference campaign logoPlease know that each and every gift -- of any amount -- is very important to us. It is both a vote of confidence and pride in the School and a way to truly make a difference in the life of students.

In May 2004, the University of Michigan publicly launched its Michigan Difference → fundraising campaign. Your participation is critical in helping the School of Information meet our Michigan Difference campaign goals of participation, scholarship, and engagement.

Online Giving is Easy

Visit the University of Michigan's Michigan Difference Web site → to learn how to make a gift online using any of a variety of giving vehicles. Instructions, forms, deadlines, addresses, and contact names are provided.

Consider Annuities

A charitable gift annuity allows you to realize immediate income for yourself, a substantial income tax deduction for yourself in the first year, and future benefit to SI. The minimum age is 50; the minimum gift is $10,000.

SI Fund

Alumni and friends of the School recognize the necessity for funds that enable the dean to address unexpected or compelling needs that arise during the course of a year. These gifts also supplement special projects and events that benefit current students directly, such as the Alternative Spring Break program.

Bequests

Alumni often choose to make gifts through planned giving, such as estate plans, wills, and trusts. More detailed information about bequests → is available from the University of Michigan Office of Development. To talk to a School of Information representative about a bequest or planned giving opportunity, call (734) 763-2281.

Points to Ponder

  • If your employer matches gifts, be certain to request a "matching gift form" and return it with your payment.
  • Michigan taxpayers can take advantage of the Michigan Tax Credit. If you file singly you could get 50 percent of your contribution to SI, up to $100, returned to you. If you file jointly you could get up to $200 back. This tax credit is a part of the state's program for gifts to higher education and public broadcasting.
  • Often major gifts come to the School through provisions made in wills or trusts. If you are considering such a gift, or wish to learn more about planned gifts, please call (734) 763-2281 or visit the University of Michigan giving Web site at www.giving.umich.edu →
