Hewlett-Packard (HP) is proving to be a valued partner at the School of Information. Hewlett-Packard logo

Over the past few years, HP has established a strong relationship with SI, actively recruiting SI students for summer internships and full-time jobs. HP visits the School each year, either to discuss partnership strategies or to recruit, conducting presentations and interviews on campus.

Hewlett Packard also supports the School of Information through sponsorship opportunities such as prizes for the expoSItion and placing a corporate ad in the SI Career Guide.

And SI students are finding HP to be a good fit with their education and career interests:

My experiences at SI prepared me for my work with HP's Knowledge & Intranet Management team. I research, propose, design, and implement innovative IA solutions in an interdisciplinary team. A lot of what I do involves breaking down silos to create an integrated finding experience for end-users. This requires me to understand how content management, search, and user interface work, and to draw on the user-centered design fundamentals I learned at SI to support design decisions that respect the end-user. It also requires that I work well across an interdisciplinary team and communicate technical concepts clearly to a non-technical audience -- skills that are emphasized at SI. The background and methods in both the technical and non-technical aspects of managing and presenting information that I learned at SI are invaluable to me at HP.

HP gave me valuable experience working independently and as a team member. I was given the responsibility and freedom to investigate and develop a new program for the team that will identify and improve various areas of the intranet. Classes like Information Architecture and Design of Complex Websites were directly applicable to much of my work. SI students will find a familiar atmosphere of innovation and hard work at HP.
