(06/07/04) The CHICO Web site has been recognized as one the Internet's top 50 sites for 2004 with a Computerworld Honors Foundation gold medal. The site was named a Computerworld Honors Laureate in the education category at a San Francisco ceremony in April of 2004. At a June 7th ceremony in Washington, DC the site was further honored as one of Computerworld's top 50 laureates worldwide. Professor C. Olivia Frost, the site's director, accepted the award.

The Computerworld Honors program works to document the global information technology revolution by identifying those who "are leading this revolution and to [record] the impact of their achievements on society." Read more.

(03/19/02) The Mummies of Ancient Egypt Web site has been featured in the book, You Are Here Kids & Family Internet Guide, an educational guide to the Internet for kids, parents, and teachers. The book contains more than 1,200 family friendly Web sites reviewed in 27 chapters. The list of Web sites range from educational to entertaining sites along with age recommendations. There is also a special section for parents, along with Internet safety tips.

(03/27/00) The MHN Instrument Encylopedia (*see note at the bottom of the page) has been selected by Classroom Connect's team of Cybrarians as a featured site in the Library Hot Five. This free resource appears once a week as both a subscriber listserv and as part of Connected Teacher's A+ Web Links.

The MHN Instrument Encyclopedia (*see note at the bottom of the page) web site was choosen as one of Yahoo!'s Picks of the Week (10/26/98)

The MHN Instrument Encyclopedia (*see note at the bottom of the page) web site was included in the November 3, 1998 issue with the following description:

Music Heritage Network Instrument Encyclopedia [Frames] The Music Heritage Network Instrument Encyclopedia is an initiative of the CHICO (Cultural Heritage Information and Community Outreach) project at the University of Michigan's School of Information (SI). SI cooperated with the School of Music's Stearns Museum of Musical Instruments to develop this comprehensive resource about instruments from around the world. Users may browse the encyclopedia by the Sachs-Hornbostel classific ation scheme, by geographic origin, or by four major instrument types: percussion, string, wind, and electronic. Users may also conduct full-text searches, or they may search the encyclopedia by instrument title, origin, maker, materials, or description. In addition, an instrument glossary as well as links to other instrument reference resources are available at the site.

The MHN Instrument Encyclopedia (*see note at the bottom of the page) web site was a Pick of the Week of Useful URLs, a personal web page by Frank Severa who said:

The Instrument Encyclopedia To show how instruments from different cultures, performance contexts, and structural materials relate to one another, the University of Michigan and the Stearns Museum of Musical Instruments joined forces. What was born was an easy to understand and locate cache of information for educators, Web browsers, and students, with an emphasis on grades 6 and up. They have several families of music groups and the information is organized according to the way the instruments produce sounds. You will find links to additional references, they also ask for your help in providing links that you have that may help their project. If you are an educator this is a run to location.
