Migration: The Middle Passage I

Subject: Migration
Curriculum Area: Reading; 2nd Grade
Instructional Objective: To consider family change before and after leaving Africa and to consider the inhumanity of transporting human beings in the Middle Passage across the Atlantic Ocean.
Materials: glossary, bibliography, map paper, pens, and ruler
Activity: Discussion

1. To be able to read and understand the poem "Middle Passage" by Robert Hayden.

2. To be able to write creatively, using complete sentences and paragraphs.

3. To be able to complete projects presented, both in and out of the classroom.

4. To be able to interact and work together positively in small groups.
