House was one the greatest performers of Mississippi Delta Blues.
He started off as a sharecropper who taught himself to play the
guitar. He developed a highly dramatic slide guitar style. In 1930,
he traveled to Wisconsin to record with Paramount. In 1942 he was
recorded for the Library of Congress. In the mid 40s he moved to
Rochester, NY to work as a railway porter and his music was forgotten.
In 1964 during the blues revival he was re-discovered and recorded
and toured extensively during the 60s and 70s. The emotional fever
in his singing and slide playing inspired Muddy Waters and Robert
Johnson.
