Sonny
Boy Williamson made the harmonica a popular lead instrument in blues
bands. He was the most important harmonica player of the pre-war
era. He used a call-and-response pattern of alternating vocal passages
with harmonica blasts. Many blues musicians would later adopt this
style. In 1934 he settled in Chicago and 1937 won a Bluebird recording
contract. His "Good Morning, School Girl" became a blues staple.
For a decade he was the king of Chicago blues.
