Barbecue Grill

By L.H.

A grill is an object on which you cook your food. It runs on propane and sometimes we have to get it refilled. The propane makes a fire and when you put your food on it, it cooks your food and gives it an outdoor taste.

My family's grill is important to us because in the summer we have hamburgers and hot dogs grilled. Sometimes we have neighbors over for cookouts or parties. When it's warm out, we'll eat out at the picnic table. The smoke keeps all the pesky bugs away! We keep the grill in our backyard on the patio. We've had a grill ever since I can remember. Before we got this grill we had a coal grill. We took the new grill with us when we moved from Cleveland, Ohio. Food is important in my culture because we eat what other people might find gross. I might find what other people think tastes good, is gross. It's great to have a grill because barbecue always tastes good.

When I hear the word culture, I think of tradition. Other people might say a church or making cookies at the holidays would be their tradition or culture. My family cooks out on the grill every summer and that's why it's my culture.
