Simple Mask Story

A poor orphan boy had a doll which he put into a toy kayak. One day the kayak and doll drifted out to sea. After this the seal hunters going out to hunt never returned. The boy borrowed a kayak and went to find out why the hunters failed to return. At sea he came upon a great whirlpool. The boy spat upon it and out jumped his toy kayak and doll. Instantly the whirlpool was stilled. The boy wished to take the doll back to the village, but the doll refused to go, so the boy promised to get him a wife. The boy returned to the village for a wife for the doll. He put out to sea, found the doll, and put him into the boat by the wife. On the way back the doll began to shiver, and the boy gave him his parka. When they returned home the doll and his wife went hunting. But the toy doll did not know how to hunt so his wife took the bow and arrows and caught a swan. The next day they hunted caribou. The toy doll again failed so his wife killed the caribou. On the third day, the wife killed a bear for him. After the return of the toy doll no more hunters ever disappeared.
