Configuring Entourage for Exchange access

1. If you haven't yet set your Windows/Active Directory password, go to http://accounts.itcs.umich.edu/ and do that.

2. Launch Entourage. If this is your first time running Entourage, go through the Setup Assistant, clicking "Next". Set Entourage as your default app.

3. In Setup Assistant, close the window. There is no need to run the assistant.

4. In Entourage, go to Entourage -> Account Settings...

5. In the Accounts window, click the “Exchange” tab, and then click the “New” button in the upper left

6. In the "Account Setup Assistant" window, enter your UMich email address and then click "Configure account manually" button:

7. In the “Edit Account" window, enter data in the following tabs as follows, appropriate to your account info:

a. Under the Account Settings tab, enter:

• An appropriate Account name – “Exchange”, for example

• Your uniqname in the account ID field

• “UMROOT” in the Domain field

• “exchange.umich.edu” in the Exchange server field

• “School of Information” in the Name field

• Your full email address in the E-mail address field

For security reasons, DO NOT check the “Save password” box. This will keep your email account secure if your laptop is lost or stolen. This will require you to enter your password every time you launch Entourage.

b. Under the Directory tab, enter:

• ”adsroot.ics.umich.edu” in the LDAP server field

c. Click the “advanced options” button, then:

 • check the “requires me to log on” and “requires a secure connection (SSL)” boxes

• Make sure the “Override” box is unchecked

Click on the square in the upper left of window to save the changes and close the window.

d. Under the Advanced tab:

• Check the “DAV service requires secure connection (SSL)” box, then click “OK”

8. A "Synchronizing" dialog will appear. Click "OK", then close the "Accounts" window.

9. You will be prompted to enter your username and password to access the mail server. Enter them, but leave the "Save password" box unchecked, for security reasons.

10. By default, the application will open configured to show folders on your computer, and NOT your Exchange email. Close the Folders view by clicking on the arrow widget, and open the Exchange view the same way.

Your software will now sync with your exchange email client. This may take a few moments.

You may see a dialog box appear warning you about junk email. Enable or disable this alert as you see fit.

Setting up spam filtering

In Entourage, go to Tools -> Rules

Select the "Mail (Exchange)" tab, and then click the "New" button in the upper left:

Configure a rule as follows:

When you select "Choose folder..." in the "Then" configuration, you will see a "Choose Folder" window come up. Select the "Junk E-mail" folder on the Exchange server, and not on your computer as defaulted.

Click "Choose" to save the setting and close the window. Your "Edit Rule" window should look as follows:

Click "OK" to save the setting, and then close the "Rules" window.

You should now have access to your Entourage email account, looking (as configured by default) as follows:
