SI 511: Special Topics: Seminar on Information Industry

Seminar explores a range of businesses that provide goods and services to information-intensive organizations. In the narrow sense, the course concentrates on the companies that supply goods and services to libraries and archives. These companies include the vendors of databases (ProQuest, Institute for Scientific Information, Chemical Abstracts, Thomson Gale, LexisNexis), library automation vendors (Innovative Interfaces, Sirsi, Ex Libris), library supply companies (Highsmith), large and small book publishers (Random House, Huron Valley Press), and software companies (ISI Researchsoft). In the broader sense, the course explores the larger companies that include Google, Apple, Microsoft, and others.
