OneupWeb is a search engine optimization firm. Its business scope covers natural search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click advertising management, search marketing analytics, actionable analytics consulting, search engine marketing (SEM) and smart search services.

Project Objectives

  • Design surveys targeted at e-marketing professionals to determine their understanding of the importance of SEM/SEO in current marketing
  • Work on white paper research topics along the lines of future SEM/SEO, especially the market prospect of mobile search
  • Help with the EyeGroup focus group study on qualitative research on people's search behavior
  • Help with other SEM work, such as constructing webpage link popularity reports

Learning Objectives

  • Consolidate the knowledge gained from the School of Information, especially those classes relevant to the internship, such as information search and retrieval, e-commerce, choice and learning, and statistics
  • Understand the general picture of SEM and its future market potentials, especially on mobile and handheld devices
  • Collect information and find research methods to study how major search engine evolutions could impact the SEM market
  • Learn facts on how a website could be optimized in terms of higher rankings by major search engines

Project Outcomes

While at OneupWeb, I produced a white paper on mobile search that was well received by the SEM industry at its annual meeting in San Diego. The paper resulted in an increase in inquiries about OneupWeb services. I also designed surveys, participated in the focus group study, and constructed popularity link reports.
