Yahoo! is a large Web portal and search service. The editorial department is responsible for creating original work for the site, including Pick of the day, Ask Yahoo! (a question answering service) and Buzz (commentary based on user log data). Yahooligans! is a search directory for kids ages 7-12.

Project Objectives

Write Picks of the Day, Ask Yahoo!s and Buzz pieces
Produce written content for Yahooligans!
Screen and add sites to the Yahooligans! directory

Learning Objectives

Learn to write each piece according to Yahoo! editorial style
Improve my writing skills for the Yahoo! & Yahooligans! audience
Get to know the Yahoo! organization and environment
Learn how to evaluate sites for inclusion into Yahooligans!

Project Outcomes

Throughout the summer I had 16 pieces of original work published for the Yahoo! Directory main site. I also published weekly "Cool Sites," wrote quizzes, edited jokes, answered a few Ask Earls, and added content to the Yahooligans! directory. Topics included Harry Potter, composers, and cancer and others.
