Email

Bridges.org is an international non-profit organization that promotes the effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the developing world to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. Approximately 2 million people live in informal settlements in Cape Town. Crime rates are among the highest in the world and about 1/3 of the population has HIV/AIDS.

Project Objectives

  • Identify and understand the key elements of the IkamvaYouth Programme in order to evaluate the best approaches to ensure its continued growth and long-term sustainability
  • Consider the model for how bridges.org could/should work with ground-level programs and organizations like IkamvaYouth
  • Explore the overall concepts and the leading thinking in the area of "social return on investment" as foundation to this study

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the impacts that information and communication technologies (ICT) can have on society.
  • To gain experience in the area of ICT for development, at the ground-level and policy-level
  • Strengthen skills in policy analysis and development
  • Gain a better understanding of the interactions between NGO organizations and governments

Project Outcomes

Over the course of this experience, I developed and initiated a plan to integrate ICT into the IkamvaYouth Programme, formulated an internal report to Bridges that formalized the processes and activities of the IkamvaYouth Programme, and developed relationships with government officials and leaders in the development field.
