Hewlett-Packard is a leading information technology firm providing consumer products, services and business solutions. The Knowledge and Intranet Management (KIM) organization at Hewlett-Packard is responsible for providing the employees of HP with portal and intranet solutions that improve employee efficiency and workflow.

Project Objectives

  • Advise and assist with classification and lifecycle management of internal content in new Sharepoint Knowledge Repository
  • Identify owners for content
  • Help owners migrate
  • Determine metatag content
  • Escalate new metadata requests for consideration
  • Draft a Collection Development Policy for KIM's Knowledge Repository and advise on its usage
  • Conduct research to help define an analytics framework for Findability
  • Contribute to developing a program to define processes for analytics analysis and feedback into solution funnel

Learning Objectives


  • Gain familiarity with a business environment in a technology organization
  • Gain knowledge in how to implement information architecture structures such as a knowledge management system
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of SharePoint
  • Understand how to apply analytics to a large corporate intranet

Project Outcomes


My time at HP resulted in the development of a new program dedicated to conducting analytics, defining the processes, and establishing channels for the recommendations to be fed into solutions. At the end of my internship, I also saw the launch of my organization's new knowledge management site, to which I contributed migration assistance and a collection development policy.
