The Seattle Opera is one of the premier opera companies in the United States. In the summer of 2005, the Seattle Opera put on a 4-part, $16 million dollar production of Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung, accompanied with a host of festivities and educational activities.

Project Objectives

  • Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the Seattle Opera website
  • Conduct a competitive analysis of other opera sites and leading interactive multimedia education sites
  • Organize the summer education programs and festival for Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung opera cycle and exlpore ways that multimedia technology can assist these programs

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to maintain a large, dynamic, e-commerce website
  • Explore ways to bring the content of the Education Department's programs online with interactive multimedia
  • Learn how public arts education programs are produced and enhanced by technology

Project Outcomes

I was able to immerse myself in the study of something I am very passionate about and also make connections with other professionals in this world. Using the skills I learned at SI, I was then able to present (and represent) the content of my study in imaginative ways using a variety of media. Working together with the other interns, I learned how to collaborate with a diverse group of people who all spoke different professional languages.
