SI's fall enrichment workshops build skills to help you reach your academic goals. Workshops are generally offered in the first weeks of each new term.

Additional Professional Practice Resources
The Academic and Career Services Office offers sessions at the beginning of fall and winter semesters intended to help you gain new skills or brush up on old ones. We also provide links below to a number of Web sites that provide free, online tutorials so that you can work at your own pace and choose the areas in which you want to concentrate.
Skills Enrichment Programs at SI
Pre-Orientation Sessions
The Academic and Career Services Office offers a variety of start-of-term workshops for students, including those who are entering the program for the first time.
Brown Bags
These lunchtime lectures provide such information as how to read an academic paper, how to write a successful paper in graduate school, how to become involved in research at SI, and much more. Sessions are announced via E-mail to students and through fliers.
Courses Through Other U-M Departments
U-M Information Technology Central Services sponsors many courses throughout the year. Most are specific to a software application or programming languages, but they also offer courses on such topics as computer security and project management. Cost to students varies. See the Education Services Web page → for the most up-to-date listings.
Human Resources Development → offers courses throughout the year. Fees vary. These courses are of more interest to faculty and staff
University Library → provides courses in bibliographic software and searching AND Dreamweaver, Photoshop, cascading style sheets, and more.
Media Union → CTools, collabrative software, Final Cut Pro, U-M Sitemaker (Web page-building software), and other media.
Association for Computing Machinery Tutorials
The Association for Computing Machinery offers more than 350 online tutorials to its members. The tutorials are conducted by companies such as Sun Microsystems and cover a range of topics, such as HTML, Perl, and Java. Student memberships → are inexpensive, and you can take these classes on your own time at your own pace.
English Language Institute
The University of Michigan's English Language Institute → offers free courses to all students who are non-native English speakers.
