Leilani Dawson (MSI '04)

Leilani Dawson

"In a very facetious way, I would describe SI as the best possible outcome resulting from the following recipe: take equal parts librarians, policy wonks, and engineers; mix vigorously; allow time for various flavors to blend; uncover and enjoy."
E-mail Leilani

Before SI: Majored in theater at New York University. Managed a theater/performing arts bookstore in New York City and gained practical experience as a stage manager and actor.

At SI: Has worked with the Community Information Corps and presented at the Society of American Archivists (SAA) 2002 conference on best practices for archiving performing arts recordings. Speaking of what attracted her to SI: "SI appealed to me for many reasons: I liked its interdisciplinary nature and the fact that it was more library oriented than many Information schools (like UC Berkeley), but more technology oriented than many Library schools (like Rutgers)."

After SI: Excited to be back in New York as archivist/archival education coordinator for the Brooklyn Historical Society, where her responsibilities include supervising graduate student interns.
