Before SI: Earned his bachelor's in history and master's in museum practice at U-M. Spent 15 years in scholarly publishing, doing editorial work with the American Math Society, UMI Research Press, and others. Came to SI (then SILS) to earn his MILS.
At SI: While an MILS student, published two research articles with his mentor, Karen Markey. Applied to the Ph.D. program to continue his work. Researched the ways in which viewers' emotional response to works of art differs depending on whether they see the original in a museum or a reproduction in print, slide, or digital form. This dissertation research won Taylor several awards. [read more]
After SI: Now associate director of U-M's Museum Studies Program and a faculty member in the Department of Communication Studies. In winter 2002, he taught SI 695, a practical engagement workshop in which students collaborated with area museums to develop online collections.
