InterAction

SI students Junko Sagawa and Peter Keller-Transburg worked during ASB with InterAction, the largest alliance of US-based international development and humanitarian organizations. Both Junko and Peter worked with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Working Group.

Junko Sagawa

Junko (right) spent the bulk of her week creating a web resource guide to be disseminated to all 160 of InterAction's member organizations. The guide focused specifically on the use of ICTs throughout a wide range of topics relevant to international development work, including global ICT policy, tools/assistance, emergency technical resources and business development. Among the 72 sites Junko found for the guide, she also included resources about regions of the developing world (Asia, Africa and Latin America), humanitarian news, virtual libraries and development sector case studies. She also worked with the Working Group manager to write and disseminate a State Department announcement concerning the World Summit on the Information Society to take place later this year.

Peter Keller-Transburg

Peter (left) spent the week researching best practices for ICTs for development, communicating with member organizations about their use of ICTs in their programs and writing up short success stories from projects coordinated by some of InterAction's member organizations. Peter talked to and emailed many development organizations throughout the week (including one that he used to work for) and accumulated information on a plethora of successful projects where ICTs are being integrated into development programs around the world. The four success stories that he completed before the end of the week will be posted to InterAction's website in the near future.

Junko and Peter also got to take part in an ICTs for development seminar at the World Bank that brought together stakeholders from various government and NGO entities in the DC area. This provided a great opportunity for them to hear from international development experts and to meet other people working in their fields of interest.
