LINC Project
SI student Sadanori Horiguchi demonstrated his versatile skill set and broad SI education during ASB 2003 with the LINC Project in New York City. Instead of the PhP and MySQL projects he anticipated working on before arriving in New York, the LINC Project offered him the chance to write up a case study on a pilot project the organization had done recently. The project had involved installing an entire Linux office computing system for a rural, low-income organizing group. Sadanori interviewed the people involved with the project and produced a picture of how the system is set up and what the users' experiences have been like throughout the project.
Sadanori found great satisfaction in working on this project. "The case I dealt with was right on with my present and future interests. Also, through the process and conversations with co-workers, I learned a tremendous amount, and most importantly, I got a lot of encouragement for what I want to accomplish in the future." In addition to showing his wide array of professional skills, Sadanori was able to learn a lot about social activism and the issues associated with the lives of welfare recipients and rural New Yorkers through his time with the LINC Project.
